Commitment to Community
For more than 80 years, Safeco, our employees and our independent distribution partners, have built a legacy of giving generously to the communities where we live and work.
Annually, we contribute two percent of Safeco's pretax profits back to the communities in which we do business. We focus our giving on strengthening neighborhoods in partnership with innovative non-profit organizations.
Our contributions include grants to non-profit organizations, employee volunteer initiatives and national programs and partnerships. Some examples of Safeco's initiatives and partnerships include:
PlayBall – Safeco teams up with local insurance distribution partners to install electronic scoreboards at youth baseball and softball fields across the country. Since 2002, Safeco has contributed $1.25 million to the program.
Neighborhood Matters! – A partnership with the YMCA dedicated to creating vibrant, safe neighborhoods and raising great kids. In 2003, Safeco made a three-year, $1.6 million commitment to this partnership.
Neighborhood Academy – A collection of life, home and business seminars that bring together neighbors in a fun and interactive learning environment.
Safeco Cares – Safeco's own volunteer program organizes volunteer activities for groups of co-workers, matches employee gifts of time and money, offers employees the opportunity to add volunteer activities to their personal development plan, and annually recognizes three employees for their outstanding commitment to the community.
In 2002, Safeco received the Points of Light Foundation's Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service. The company also received the United Way of King Countyís 2003 Spirit of Caring Award.
